ZeroRank is a newer, independent entrant, included here on the same terms as everyone else: what it covers, what it costs, and where it's thin.

How we evaluated

We compared each vendor's own pricing and feature pages as of October 2026, not private test accounts or trial logins. The criteria: which engines a tool actually names (not "AI search" as a vague catch-all), how many prompts or queries you get to run before hitting a paywall, whether pricing is published or hidden behind a sales call, how fresh the data is (live prompt runs versus panel-based estimates), what you can export or pipe into a report, and whether there's an API for teams who want to build their own dashboard. None of this is a ranking of which tool is "best" in the abstract. A three-engine tool that's transparent about price can be the right pick for a five-person team, and a seventeen-engine tool with sales-gated pricing can be the wrong one for the same team.

One thing worth saying plainly: pricing on this whole category moves fast, plans get renamed, and a few vendors here don't publish numbers at all. Treat every figure below as "as of October 2026" and verify on the vendor's own page before you buy.

Why "tracking brand mentions in ChatGPT and Gemini" is a different ask than classic rank tracking

A classic rank tracker checks whether your URL holds position 3 for a keyword, on a schedule, against a search engine that returns the same ten blue links to everyone running the same query from the same location. AI answers don't work that way. Ask the same model the same question twice and you can get two different answers, with different brands named, because the model is sampling from a probability distribution rather than running a deterministic index lookup, something we've written about at length in how to check if ChatGPT mentions your brand.

That's the whole reason this category of tool exists. Instead of one query, these platforms run a set of prompts, often dozens or hundreds, against each engine on a recurring schedule, then aggregate the results into something closer to a polling average: share of voice, sentiment, which competitors keep showing up next to you, which sources the model cited to back its answer. No single run proves anything. The pattern across a few hundred runs a week is the actual signal, and that's what you're paying for when you buy one of these tools instead of running the prompts by hand.

The tools

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

Semrush folded AI tracking into its Brand Performance Reports rather than shipping it as a separate product, so if you already pay for Semrush's core SEO suite, the AI numbers show up next to the keyword and traffic data you're already looking at. It tracks share of voice, sentiment, mentions, and average position in AI-generated answers, aggregating ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini data alongside Google's AI Mode, and the company says the dataset spans 68,500 locations across 53 languages, updated weekly.

Pricing restructured recently: Semrush dropped the old Pro/Guru/Business naming for SEO ($117.33/mo), Starter ($165.17/mo), Pro+ ($248.17/mo), and Advanced ($455.67/mo), all billed annually. Prompt tracking scales with the tier, from 50 prompts a day on Starter up to 200 a day on Advanced.

Best for: teams who want AI visibility as one more tab in a tool they're already paying for, not a separate line item to justify to finance.

One honest limitation: the current public pages don't name Claude or Copilot coverage the way some competitors do, and the Google AI Mode framing is narrower than a tool that separately tracks AI Overviews and AI Mode as two distinct surfaces.

Ahrefs Brand Radar

Ahrefs built Brand Radar as the AI-era sibling to its backlink and keyword tools, and it leans into scale: the product page cites hundreds of millions of monthly prompts tracked across AI Overviews alone, plus tens of millions each for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Copilot, with Claude available on higher tiers. It also tracks visibility on YouTube, TikTok, and Reddit, which is a genuinely different angle from most of the tools on this list, since those platforms are themselves AI-answer source material now.

Pricing: Custom Prompts start at $50/mo as a standalone add-on, or come included once you're on a paid Ahrefs plan (Lite starts at $129/mo, Standard $249/mo, Advanced $449/mo, Enterprise $1,499/mo annual commitment). The AI Visibility Index specifically runs $199/mo for 83 prompts a day with full platform access.

Best for: anyone already paying for Ahrefs for links and keywords who doesn't want a second vendor relationship for AI tracking.

One honest limitation: the broadest engine list (Claude included) is gated to higher-tier plans, so the entry price on the "at a glance" table doesn't buy you the full matrix.

Profound

Profound positions itself at the enterprise end, and the engine list on its Enterprise tier is one of the widest in this category: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Anthropic Claude, Google AI Overviews, and Exa Search. The free trial tier is far narrower, limited to ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews, which is a reasonable way to kick the tires but not representative of what you'd actually buy.

Pricing: the trial is free; everything beyond it is a custom quote, with no self-serve plan or published number anywhere on the public site.

Best for: larger brands with a dedicated AI-visibility budget line and the patience for a sales process.

One honest limitation: zero price transparency past the free tier. If you need a number for a budget approval before you'll even take the call, this isn't the fastest option.

Peec AI

Peec keeps its engine list deliberately narrow: ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, framed around marketing teams that want competitor benchmarking without a seventeen-platform matrix to make sense of. Plan names (Starter, Pro, Advanced, Enterprise) are public; actual dollar figures aren't, at least not without clicking through to a signup flow.

Best for: teams who've decided three engines cover the buying journeys that matter to them and don't want to pay for coverage of platforms their customers aren't using.

One honest limitation: no public pricing. We're not going to guess a number here, and neither should you before talking to sales.

Otterly.AI

Otterly is one of the more transparent tools on pricing and one of the cheapest to start. The default engine set is ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot, with Claude, Google AI Mode, and Gemini available as additional options rather than baked into every plan.

Pricing: Lite at $25/mo (annual) or $29/mo (monthly), Standard at $160/mo (annual, marked as the most popular tier), Premium at $422/mo (annual), Enterprise custom.

Best for: solo consultants and small agencies who want to start tracking this week without a sales call, and who can live with adding engines as add-ons rather than getting everything bundled on day one.

One honest limitation: the cheap entry tier doesn't include every engine out of the box, so the real cost of matching a broader platform's default coverage is higher than the $25 headline suggests.

Scrunch AI

Scrunch's pitch goes a step past measurement into "AXP," its term for turning AI-driven traffic into customers once you know where it's coming from, which puts it closer to a growth platform than a pure monitoring dashboard. Engine coverage is wide out of the gate: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews, and Meta.

Pricing: Starter at $250/mo (billed annually) or $300/mo month-to-month, Growth around $417/mo annually or $500/mo monthly, Enterprise custom.

Best for: mid-market teams who want the AI-visibility data and a built-in path to act on it, not just a dashboard to screenshot for a deck.

One honest limitation: the entry price is meaningfully higher than Otterly, ZeroRank, or Rankscale for what's arguably an overlapping core feature set, the premium is for the action layer on top.

AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ tracks 11 named models, which is one of the widest lists here: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI, and Mistral. It also leans into content optimization and competitive insight, not just a mentions counter.

Pricing: Essential is free with a $25 credit, Starter is $295/mo for self-guided small and mid-size businesses, Enterprise is custom for larger teams and agencies.

Best for: teams who want near-full engine coverage without an enterprise sales cycle, once they're past the free tier.

One honest limitation: there's a real gap between the free tier and $295/mo, with nothing in between, so budget-constrained teams either stay on the free credit or commit to a meaningful monthly spend.

ZeroRank

ZeroRank tracks 17 AI platforms by its own count, naming ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Copilot, Grok, and DeepSeek among them, and it undercuts most of the established players on price.

Pricing: Starter at $39/mo, Growth at $199/mo (marked most popular), Agency at $499/mo, Enterprise custom. There's also a free report you can run before entering payment details.

Best for: budget-conscious teams and independent consultants who want wide engine coverage without the mid-market price tag Scrunch or AthenaHQ carry.

One honest limitation: ZeroRank is newer than Semrush, Ahrefs, or SE Ranking, with a smaller public track record, so weigh that against the lower price if long-term vendor stability matters to your buying decision.

Promptwatch

Promptwatch is built specifically around the idea of tracking brand visibility in AI responses to drive high-intent traffic, covering ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews, Claude, Grok, Perplexity, and DeepSeek.

Pricing: Essential at $95/mo, Professional at $245/mo, Business at $579/mo (demo required, no self-serve signup at that tier).

Best for: mid-size marketing teams who want a dedicated tool rather than a bolt-on to an existing SEO suite.

One honest limitation: no free tier, just a 7-day trial, so there's no way to sit with the data for a month before committing to a card charge.

Rankscale

Rankscale is the cheapest entry point in this entire list for broad-engine coverage: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, DeepSeek, Mistral, Grok, and Copilot, all named explicitly, starting under $20 a month.

Pricing: Essentials at $17/mo (yearly billing only, discounted from $20), Pro at $99/mo, Pro+ at $229/mo, Growth at $385/mo, Enterprise at $780/mo.

Best for: anyone who wants to test whether this category is worth budgeting for at all before committing real money.

One honest limitation: at $17/mo you're very likely prompt- and check-volume capped in ways the marketing page doesn't spell out on the pricing table itself; read the fine print before assuming Essentials gives you meaningful daily coverage across all ten-plus engines.

SE Ranking (SE Visible)

SE Ranking actually sells AI tracking two different ways, worth untangling before you buy either. SE Visible is a standalone product in its own right, covering ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, and AI Overview, priced at Basic $99/mo (200 prompts), Core $189/mo (450 prompts), and Plus $355/mo (1,000 prompts), each with a roughly 20% discount on annual billing and a 10-day free trial. Separately, SE Ranking's classic rank-tracking plans (Core from $103.20/mo, Growth from $223.20/mo, both billed annually) offer the same kind of AI tracking as a paid add-on at $71.20/mo annual or $89/mo monthly on top of the base plan.

Best for: existing SE Ranking customers who want AI tracking folded into their existing rank-tracking login (the add-on route), or anyone who wants SE Ranking's AI data without buying classic rank tracking at all (the standalone SE Visible route).

One honest limitation: two differently-priced products doing overlapping work under similar branding is confusing to compare at a glance, and Claude isn't confirmed on either one.

Similarweb

Similarweb belongs on this list for a different reason than everyone else here: it's a web traffic intelligence platform, not a prompt-testing tool, and it reports on generative AI referral traffic and market share shifts (how much traffic ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI platforms are actually sending to real sites, based on its panel data) rather than running prompts and counting mentions. If your question is "which AI platforms are sending my competitors real visits," Similarweb answers something none of the prompt-based tools above can.

Pricing isn't published for this specific capability; Similarweb has historically sold through a sales-contact model for its broader Digital Research Intelligence suite, and we couldn't find a current self-serve number for AI traffic tracking specifically as of October 2026.

Best for: teams who want AI's traffic impact in the context of a broader competitive-intelligence subscription, not a dedicated mentions tracker.

One honest limitation: no public pricing, and it answers a genuinely different question (referral traffic) than "did the model mention my brand," so don't buy it expecting the same output as Profound or Otterly.

Writesonic GEO

Writesonic built its GEO (generative engine optimization) tracking directly into its existing AI writing platform, under the pitch that "SEO gets you into Google, AEO gets you into AI answers." Lower tiers cover ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews; the Enterprise tier expands to 8 platforms including Perplexity, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, and Google AI Mode.

Pricing: Starter at $79/mo (3 platforms, 50 prompts), Basic at $199/mo, Growth at $399/mo (adds sentiment analysis and a trial of its Action Center), Enterprise custom for the full 8-platform set with a dedicated strategist.

Best for: teams who want AI-visibility tracking in the same tool where they're already generating and optimizing content, rather than exporting data between two platforms.

One honest limitation: the full engine list is Enterprise-only, same pattern as Ahrefs and Profound, so the attractive $79 entry price buys you three engines, not the eight on the feature comparison chart.

Am I On AI

Am I On AI is the narrowest tool here by design, tracking exactly two engines: ChatGPT and Google AI Overview. That's a deliberate bet that those two cover the overwhelming majority of what a small or mid-size business's customers are actually using to research purchases.

Pricing: Pro at $100/mo (150 prompts), Prism at $349/mo (750 prompts, 5 audience segments), GEO Council at $2,500/mo (a done-for-you, expert-led tier that was fully booked with a waitlist at the time of this review).

Best for: small businesses who want a simple answer to "are we showing up in ChatGPT and Google's AI answers" without paying for Claude or Copilot coverage they don't need yet.

One honest limitation: if your customers research on Gemini, Perplexity, or Copilot, this tool has a blind spot by design, it's a feature for the right buyer and a gap for the wrong one.

Coverage matrix

Checkmarks reflect what's confirmed on each vendor's current public pages as of October 2026. A dash means we couldn't confirm that engine on the tool's site, not that it's definitely absent, vendors add engines without always updating every page at once. Where coverage is tier-gated, we've marked it for the tier most people would actually buy.

How to choose by budget and team type

If you're a solo consultant or a two-person shop testing whether this category is worth the money at all, start at the bottom of the price range: Rankscale's $17/mo Essentials or ZeroRank's $39/mo Starter both get you a real, named engine list for less than most people spend on coffee in a month. You'll likely hit prompt-volume limits fast, treat the first month as a pilot, not a permanent home.

If you're an agency reporting to multiple clients, Otterly.AI's tiered structure and transparent pricing make client-by-client budgeting easier than tools that gate the number behind a sales call, and Promptwatch's three tiers map reasonably well to small, mid, and large client accounts.

If you're already paying for Semrush, Ahrefs, or SE Ranking for core SEO, check what your current plan already includes before buying a separate AI-visibility tool. Ahrefs bundles Custom Prompts into paid plans starting at Lite; SE Ranking's add-on is cheaper than most standalone competitors once you're past the base subscription. Switching costs for a second vendor relationship are real, not just the subscription fee.

If you're an enterprise brand that needs the full engine matrix, including Claude and Copilot, by default rather than as an upsell, Profound and AthenaHQ currently publish the widest named lists, with Scrunch and Rankscale close behind. Expect to talk to a sales team for Profound specifically; AthenaHQ and Rankscale both have self-serve paths at their stated price points.

If your actual question is about referral traffic rather than mentions, "how much real traffic is ChatGPT or Gemini sending competitors," Similarweb answers something none of the prompt-testing tools can, and it's worth treating as a complement, not a replacement, for whichever mentions tracker you pick.

None of this replaces reading our full playbook on getting your brand mentioned in AI search first. A tracking tool tells you where you stand. It doesn't do the work of earning the mention in the first place, and a few of the tools above (Scrunch, Writesonic) are explicit about selling the optimization layer on top of the data for exactly that reason. If you want the Google-specific half of this picture in more depth, including what Search Console can and can't show you, that's a separate roundup on AI Overviews trackers. And if budget is the real constraint right now, our free AI SEO tools roundup is worth a look before you commit to any of the paid tiers above.

FAQ

Can I track AI visibility for free?

Not at meaningful volume. AthenaHQ offers a free tier with a one-time credit, and ZeroRank and Am I On AI offer free trial reports, but every tool on this list that provides ongoing, scheduled tracking charges for it. If you want a genuinely free starting point, running a small, fixed prompt set by hand on a weekly schedule, logged in a spreadsheet, costs nothing but time; see how to check if ChatGPT mentions your brand for the method.

Do these tools track Claude and Microsoft Copilot?

Some do, inconsistently. Profound, AthenaHQ, Rankscale, and Scrunch all name both on their public pages; several others, including Semrush's current AI Visibility pages and Peec AI, don't list either explicitly. If Claude or Copilot coverage matters to your buying decision, check the current engine list on the vendor's own site before signing up, not just this table, since plans and coverage change.

What's the difference between an AI visibility tool and a classic rank tracker with an AI Overview feature?

A classic rank tracker like Ahrefs' Rank Tracker or Semrush's Position Tracking is built around your existing keyword list and bolts on AI Overview detection as one more SERP feature to flag. A dedicated AI visibility platform runs its own prompt set, not tied to a keyword list, specifically to see how a model talks about your brand in a generated answer. You likely want both if you're serious about this: one for the classic search layer, one for the conversational layer. Our AI Overviews tracker roundup covers the first category in depth.

Is it worth paying for a tool instead of just asking ChatGPT myself?

For a single gut-check, no, just ask it. For anything you want to report on, trend over time, or benchmark against competitors, yes, because a single question-and-answer session with a model that samples from a probability distribution tells you almost nothing reliable on its own. The whole value of these tools is running the same prompt set often enough, across enough variations, that you're looking at a pattern instead of a coin flip.

How many prompts do I actually need to track?

More than most people guess, and fewer than the biggest plans assume you want. A realistic starting set covers your brand name directly, two or three category queries without your brand name in them ("best [category] for [use case]"), a head-to-head comparison against your top two competitors, and a problem-first query that doesn't name a category at all. That's a workable baseline most entry-level plans can handle; scale up from there once you know which prompt types actually move for your category.
